Week 1 (second round)

Okay, so some things discussed on Monday night....

1) Anyone who would like to contribute up to 5$ per person let me know. This way there is money on the line for the competition!!! The winner will be awarded on the 24th of July

2) You must be responsible for submitting your weekly goals and points on the comment section of the blog. If you do no submit your goals and points, you may lose them (which means you may not earn the money).

3) I am going to figure out a way that we can have sections on the blog where people can submit recipes, workouts and snacks that have been helpful to you.

4) Junk food/treats/candy are still up your disgression on what you feel is inappropriate or not...

Did I miss anything?? Let the goal submitting begin....

Lets get going again!

Alright, so we are starting things up again, with a few changes so take note!!

* Free days...we are now only have ONE free day. You may choose which day your free day is. Then you may have one other day where you allow yourself one treat. This is to prevent treat binging.

* You can choose any 5 days to excercise. Your 2 free days to not exercise don't have to be the same 2 days you eat treats.

* You will now get 1 extra point a day for writing down everything you eat in a day (you don't have to count calories...yet. Just write it down).

This will go until the 24th of July.

Curb the Craving

Okay so it anyone else having a hard time with NOT eating sweets? I am! So I am trying to brainstorm some ideas of healthy snacks, instead of eating candy or a dessert. Feel free to add any you may have found that you like:

-Strawberries in a bowl of milk
-Air-popped popcorn (hardly buttered with a little salt if needed)
-Toast with Jam
-Fat free/sugar free pudding or Jello
-String Cheese
-Cottage cheese and fruit (really good with peaches).
-A bowl of healthy cereal (I love Special K Red Berry)
-Flavored water (such as Propel or Vitamim water)

Any other suggestions?

First week

HOW IS EVERYONE's FIRST WEEK GOING??? Post comments below...

I know that Darin has passed up alot of treat opportunities. At work they brought in paradise bakery cookies, and donuts and he passed them up!! Way to go babes.

Also, my mom, Janet, passed up delicious chocolate cake at a dinner group she and my dad went to.

Debbie, Darin's mom, passed up dessert at Ron's retirement luncheon.

What have you been doing this week to help you pass up treats?

Weight Loss

Alright, we are adding one more element to this competition...Weight loss goals. You will individually make a weight loss goals. Some don't need to lose weight so making a goal to maintain your weight is fine. You people know who you are so I don't need to mention any names(Traci...). If you reach your weight loss goal by the end of the month, you get to add 10 pts. to your final score. Make sure that your goal is achievable, yet enough to motivate you.

It is generally NOT healthy to lose more than 1-2 lbs per week. Also, sometimes it takes awhile to train your body to be in "weight loss" mode. So if you are not a regular exerciser or a healthy eater, when you all of sudden begin doing these things, your body will want to hold on to what it has until you consistently are being healthy.

The Competition

Okay, so this is how the competition is going to work. First off, what good would a competition be without motivation. We need to have a prize. I think a monetary prize would be nice.

We are going to have different rounds to this competition, where each round gets a little bit more strict (and therefore hopefully resulting in some really healthy people). I'm thinking, lets try this first round out and then put money up for grabs on Round 2 for the prize.

So here are the rules:

1) You are going to be working as a team, at the end of each week email your AVERAGE points to me on SATURDAY or SUNDAY (see sidebar for teams). Also, when you email me your weekly points, also email your goal for the following week.

2) You must keep track of your points 5 days out of the week (you get to chose 1 free day, and Sunday's are free).

3) You are your own judge on what you think constitutes as "Candy, treats, desserts, etc..." so be honest when you are keeping track each day of your treat points.

4) Each week you and your partner is going to make a goal on something you would like to work on for the week. The goal has to do with anything that will make you healthier. Make sure it is reasonable and something that you can acheive, but also remember it should be something to help you improve. So if you already dont drink soda, dont make that your goal, its cheating yourself! (Some weekly goal examples: Exercise all 5 days that you keep points, eat a least 1 fruit and veggie with every meal, don't eat after 8 pm, don't eat any fast food...etc).

Round 1 starts May 1st (which is a Sunday so its a free day :) and ends May 31st.

The Beginnings

This blog came about as inspiration to me when I saw one of my already skinny friends get even skinnier. She said that her family had done their own version of the biggest looser competition and together as a family they lost 100 lbs. So even though I would like to claim this idea as my own, I can't. But I thought...what a great way to get healthy! There is nothing like having a support group like family to help motivate and accomplish goals.

The components that are going to make up this competition are, however, my own ideas. And while I am trying to make this proccess easy, it also needs to be effective. We are going to track exercise and food based on a points system (not nearly as complicated as weight watchers though). And the whole purpose for doing this is not to overwhelm and put pressure on to make people lose weight but to create healthy lifestyles!!!
